Re: Delima of a New Year

Stop Running the Excuse Tap

From the poem the delima of new year by easy words, one would be drawn to the very common challenge people are faced with at the turn of the year. I will not shy away from the truth. I will own up and say I am also a sufferer of this yearly epidemic of some sorts. It is something that we must be ready to deal with if we want to actually reach our peak.

It is very common for people to set new goals and new year resolutions for what they hope to achieve or change or acquire or expunge or implement in the new year... Some people go "new year, new me!" Some others say " new year, new look, new job, no procrastination, no laziness, no this no that" .. The list of what people will do or not do in a new year is endless. This is 2019 though, have you started on anything yet? Check the date again, it day four already mate!

The main reason why people will not change much at the coming of December 31, 2019 is EXCUSES. A lot of us have a gushing tap of excuses running in our minds, with a barrelhouse tank to keep it supplied and a deep borehole of it to pump from! Some people can make excuses for making an excuse. It's a terrible situation to be in!

Have we noticed that we tend to start a new year with a kind of energy. We have some ideas, some new things to try out, some new places to go, some new skills to learn, some new business idea to implement some new this and that it's a new year dammit! Yet, we might not do much because of one challenge that we are not ready to combat.

Old habits do die hard. Yes. But this is because you are looking for an excuse for those habits and in fact, whoever came up with that statement has done a fantastic job for you. What an excuse! Those old nasty habits will never die if you keep this up. You won't get any positive results by giving excuses..

How Do I Get Results Then?

Yea that's right! You need to press the START button. It's not enough to write it down and look at it every morning your plans that is, it is more relevant to begin to do something.. Take that trash out, do the laundry, do the dishes, smile, laugh, do that research and many other things you might want to do..

You know, some people have their excuses tap running so hard that they seem philosophical and learned about how things would end in an unfavorable way. Many excuse mongers readily absorb the ill- fated story of a friend who tried to do something and failed at it and quickly use that as an excuse not to even try to see why the friend was not so lucky or why they failed.

Those that love excuses will focus on the inhibitions, the difficulties and not on how they can overcome them.. The good news is(well it's not if you are excuse prone) that nobody ever accepted an excuse. Nobody will!

The world belongs to those that act and not those that just talk

  1. Great words man, since tis a blank canvas of 365 days, set goals do not necessarily have to fit in it. Starting small with consistency might help us create new habits. As said by you, acting tops the list.
